Diamonds InventoryINVENTORY AVAILABLE THROUGH DIMONZ SUPPLIERS |
The Links below represent a partial listing of diamonds and diamond jewelry available to Dimonz through various suppliers. Please note that many of the stones listed on these links do not meet the strict criteria that Dimonz describes on this website. For this reason, I (Bill Bailey) will personally discuss any stone or jewelery item that you are interested in purchasing before ordering it. Because I do not believe that diamonds should be purchased based solely on the information presented on diamond grading reports (and for security reasons) I do not allow credit card purchases to be made directly from this website until we've had a chance to discuss the stone in which you are interested. After making sure that the diamond(s) meets your personal needs and requirements, we will make payment arrangements. If you are interested in any of the stones listed, please call or e-mail me (703-237-6856 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

THE DIMONZ INVENTORY
The list below represents an approximation of Dimonz' prices for round brilliant cut diamonds that are available based on carat weight, color, clarity and cut category. Specific stones are not listed because diamonds in the inventory generally turn over too rapidly to keep the inventory current. All diamonds in the Dimonz inventory come with a G.I.A. Report or an A.G.S. Report (which contains a proportions report and cut grade). These are estimated prices and do not represent an offer to sell. Additionally, it must be noted that the diamonds listed are subject to availability. Please note that Dimonz' carries round brilliant cut diamonds in ALL colors and clarities -- not just those listed, which represent those most frequently requested. Please call or e-mail me (Bill Bailey) for specific price quotes (703-237-6856 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).
The prices of fancy shapes (i.e., those other than round, such as Princess Cut, Emerald Cut, Radiant Cut, Pear Shape, Marquise, et al ) are not listed, because prices tend to fluctuate depending on cut and availability (better cut diamonds in any fancy shape are very difficult to find). Please call or e-mail to obtain specifics on stones that are available (703-237-6856 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

CUT GRADES: Currently, there are two prevalent cut grading systems. The American Gem Society (AGS) and the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Both have sophisticated cut evaluation systems which are briefly described below. Dimonz uses the AGS system, which has generally gained acceptance by members of the jewelry trade in recent years. |
|
|
A.G.S.'s System This diamond cut grading system was originally developed by Robert M. Shipley, known as the "Father of Gemology in America." Mr. Shipley was the founder of both the American Gem Society and the Gemological Institute of America. Under this system, the cut grade of a diamond is graded on a scale from 0 (ideal) to 10 (very poor) based on Table %,Crown Angle, Pavilion Depth, Pavilion Angle, Polish, Symmetry, Girdle Thickness and Culet size. The cut grade of the diamond is based on it's lowest rating. For example, if a diamond has a rating of "5"(Fair) for the crown angle and a rating "0" or ideal on all of the other cut elements, the cut grade is "5" or Fair. In order to be considered "ideal" cut, a diamond has to receive a rating of "0" on every element, as defined below: A.G.S. "000" IDEAL CUT (Note: AGS grades diamonds from 0 to 10 on each factor, with "0" being "ideal") You will generally pay 15% more for an AGS "000" Ideal cut diamond than for a diamond with a good, or very good cut grade (i.e., AGS 2-3). Those with cut grades of 4 and below will generally sell for between 25%-50% below the cost of ideal cut stones. After the "0" cut grade, AGS certificates assign, the remainder of the cut grades based on how much they deviate from the "ideal". The system is a little to complicated to describe here. A brief summary is as follows: AGS 0 (or 000) IDEAL CUT AGS 1 EXCELLENT AGS 2 VERY GOOD AGS 3-4 GOOD AGS 5-7 FAIR AGS 8-10 POOR |
G.I.A.'s System GIA classifies diamonds using four cut grades: G.I.A.'s CLASS I (the top cut grade, resembling the "Ideal Cut"): have a 53%-60% table; "Very Good" or "Excellent" Polish and Symmetry; a 34-35 degree crown angle; and a 43% pavilion depth ( rounded to the nearest 1/2%). Additionally, G.I.A. Class I and A.G.S. Ideal Cut diamonds must meet the other cut criteria described under "G.I.A. Certs." For girdle thickness, culet size, etc. You generally pay 15% more for a G.I.A. Class I cut grade or an A.G.S. Ideal Cut than for a similar diamond with a Class II cut grade. G.I.A.'s CLASS II ("International Fine Trade Cut" or very well cut stones): have a 61%-64% tables; a 32-34 degree crown angle; a 42.0%-42.5% or 43.5%-44.0% pavilion depth (when rounded to the nearest 1/2%); at least "Good" Polish and Symmetry; in addition to meeting the criteria for girdle thickness, culet size, etc. described under "G.I.A. Certs." G.I.A.'s CLASS III ("US Domestic Average Cut") Diamonds generally have a 65%-70% table; a 30-32 degree crown angle; a 41%-41.5% or 44.5%-46% pavilion depth; and "Fair" Polish and Symmetry. Other measurements may also fall outside of those prescribed above. These diamonds typically discount for 10% to 30% less than the Class II cut grade. G.I.A.'s CLASS IV: ("Below Average Beauty/Durability) typically discount for 30% to 50% less than the Class II cut grade. |

AVERAGE DOMESTIC CUT GRADE = "5" or FAIR
DIMONZ PRICES FOR IDEAL CUT
*Note: Since GIA and AGS use different scales, this represents Dimonz' opinion as to the equivalence of GIA and AGS Polish and Symmetry grades. Please also note that prices listed here are for ideal and near ideal cut diamonds. Reasonably well cut diamonds (e.g., AGS cut grades 3-4 or "good") are available at prices from 10-25% less than those listed for ideal cut. |
AVERAGE DOMESTIC CUT GRADE = CLASS III
DIMONZ PRICES FOR NEAR IDEAL CUT* *Note: Dimonz only selects diamonds at the very top of the A.G.S. "1" (Excellent) Cut Grade-- i.e. diamonds that are, for all intents and purposes, ideal cut, but cost less. Cut Grade: A.G.S. "1" (Excellent) *Note: Since GIA and AGS use different scales, this represents Dimonz' opinion as to the equivalence of GIA and AGS Polish and Symmetry grades. Reasonably well cut diamonds (e.g., AGS cut grades 3-4 or "good") are available at prices from 10-25% less than those listed for ideal cut. |
